Nearby Alverstone Mead Nature Reserve is one of the best places to see Red Squirrels on the Island, as well as a whole host of other wildlife. You can access the reserve on foot by following the road across the bridge and taking the footpath on the left. This path will lead you to a bird hide which is a well known hangout for the elusive Red Squirrels.
