Wootton – Ryde

A link to the ferries

4 1/2 miles

This is an additional route that, when linked with others on this website provides a circular option for the Red Squirrel Trail, or access to the Trail from the ferries to the east of the Island. It is an mix of on- and off-road cycling.

The route starts / finishes at Wootton Station. This is an excellent place to stop and have a picnic, and if you have time, visit the award-winning Isle of Wight Steam Railway. Between the Station and the car ferry at Fishbourne travel (takes cycles) is a small amount of road travel within a 30 mph speed zone and cycle path too. Wootton has a pub and shops.

Between Fishbourne and Ryde the off-road route traverses the lands of Quarr Abbey where there are opportunities for stop for tea and cake, and use a WC.

At Ryde travel is once again along roads within a 30 mph speed zone. The trail  starts / finishes at Ryde Pier to link with the passenger ferry (which takes cycles) but also stop to have a look at the bird life on the internationally designated Ryde Sands.
